Phentermine (Adipex-P, Lomaira) in Austin, TX: Online Prescribing by a Texas-Licensed Physician

Phentermine is an FDA-approved prescription appetite suppressant for short-term weight management, used together with a reduced-calorie diet, physical activity and behavior changes, in adults with obesity or with overweight and a weight-related condition. It is a Schedule IV controlled substance. Through TeleSlim Clinic, adults in Austin and across the Austin metro area and Central Texas can see a Texas-licensed, DEA-registered, board-certified physician by video to learn whether phentermine is appropriate for them.

At a glance

  • Form: a tablet or capsule taken once daily or in divided doses (an appetite suppressant)
  • Who it is for: Adults 18+ with a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or type 2 diabetes. It is approved for short-term use (a few weeks) alongside diet and exercise.
  • Typical dosing: Dosing depends on the product. Adipex-P is typically 37.5 mg once daily (or 18.75 mg twice daily), and Lomaira is 8 mg up to three times daily before meals. Your physician selects the dose and how long to continue, and the label describes short-term use.
  • Your physician: Dr. Diala Alatassi, MD, board-certified in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine, licensed in Texas
  • Visit cost: $99 initial consultation, then $99 per month for physician follow-up

How Phentermine care works with TeleSlim Clinic in Austin

  1. Book a video visit. Complete a short health history, then meet Dr. Alatassi from home.
  2. Get a medical evaluation. She reviews your history, current medicines and goals to decide whether Phentermine or another option fits.
  3. Prescription to your pharmacy. If a medication is appropriate, your prescription goes to the pharmacy you choose, such as H-E-B, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart or Costco. TeleSlim Clinic does not dispense medication and does not offer compounded GLP-1 medications.
  4. Follow up monthly. Dose changes, side effect management, nutrition and activity guidance continue through monthly visits.

What Phentermine costs without insurance

TeleSlim Clinic is cash-pay: $99 for the first consultation and $99 per month for follow-up, with lower per-month rates on 3-month, 6-month and annual plans (see our cost guide for Austin). The medication itself is a separate cost paid at the pharmacy or through manufacturer programs. Generic phentermine is generally much less expensive than brand-name GLP-1 medications, though prices vary by pharmacy and product, so ask your pharmacy for the current price. We can provide a superbill you may submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement; reimbursement is not guaranteed. Read more about insurance and weight loss medication in Austin.

A controlled-substance medication

Phentermine is a Schedule IV controlled substance. Dr. Alatassi holds a Texas DEA registration, and prescribing follows federal and Texas law, which can include checking the state prescription monitoring program. Not everyone is a candidate, and your physician decides after a full evaluation.

Important safety information

Key safety information: Phentermine should not be used with or within 14 days of MAO inhibitors, or by people with a history of heart or blood vessel disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid, glaucoma, agitated states, a history of drug misuse, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It can raise heart rate and blood pressure and has a potential for misuse and dependence.

Common side effects include dry mouth, trouble sleeping, increased heart rate or blood pressure, constipation, dizziness, restlessness and an unpleasant taste. Tell your physician about all medicines you take, including antidepressants and stimulants, and do not combine phentermine with other weight-loss products unless your physician directs it. Results vary from person to person. Please read the manufacturer’s full prescribing information and discuss your own risks with your physician.

Compare your options

Phentermine is a short-term option that works differently from GLP-1 medicines such as Zepbound and Wegovy. Some patients use it as a starting point or when a GLP-1 medicine is not suitable. Your physician will discuss which approach fits. See all options on our weight loss medications in Austin page.

Phentermine questions from Austin patients

Can I get a Phentermine prescription online in Texas?

No. We do not dispense medication. Your prescription goes to the pharmacy you choose.

Will insurance cover it?
